The FIELD file is fixed-formatted. Integers are formatted as ``i5'',
reals as ``f12.0'' and characters as ``a4'', ``a8'', ``a40'' or
``a80'', depending on context. The contents of the file are variable
and are defined by the use of directives. Additional information
is associated with the directives, and is free formatted as in the
CONTROL file above. The file is not case sensitive.
